Antigua low season: how to fill your villa from May to November

Short answer

Antigua's quieter months run roughly from May to November, with September and October the slowest. Owners who fill them do four things: price by demand rather than a flat summer rate, cut minimum stays, target events like Carnival and longer stays, and market to guests who travel off-peak.

Peak season in Antigua mostly takes care of itself. The difference between an average villa and a strong one is usually made between May and November.

How quiet does it get?

Very. Market data across the island shows occupancy swinging from high in the winter months to much lower in late summer and early autumn. In St John's, AirROI data shows low-season occupancy averaging under 27%.

1. Stop using one summer rate

Low season isn't flat. Carnival in late July and early August brings a strong spike, and the US summer holidays bring families. A single summer rate misses all of it. Price each night by demand. See our pricing guide for how.

2. Cut minimum stays

A guest planning a four-night trip in September won't book a villa that demands seven. Shorter minimums in low season, and especially for dates in the next three to four weeks, open the calendar to far more searches.

3. Go after longer stays

Remote workers, people visiting family, and those relocating often book weeks at a time and care less about season. Weekly and monthly discounts make your villa visible to them, and one 28-night booking can carry a slow month.

4. Market to off-peak travellers

Caribbean visitors, Latin American travellers (a market the Tourism Authority is actively targeting) and couples without school-age children travel outside the winter rush. Listing copy and photos that speak to them help.

5. Use the quiet time well

Low season is when to refresh photos, fix the small things guests mention in reviews, service the air conditioning and prepare for hurricane season. A villa that starts December looking its best earns more all winter. Our hurricane checklist covers the preparation side.

What a slow month should look like

Even a well-run villa will be quieter in September than in February. The question is whether quiet means 20% or 50%. The free property review shows which of your low-season dates should have booked and why they didn't.
